Comprehensive study of the geographical and historical evidence including DNA that proves that New York was the Hearland of the Nephite Empire. Way overdo! So much research is evident in this work! Amazing details that make so much sense. This is what I've been looking for all along. Thank you so much. I'll read it again and again.
(about 2.5 stars, really)
Don't get me wrong, I like speculation. It's fun and it can make history come alive as you think about how things might have been or why things actually happened. But I prefer speculation to be presented as speculation, not as fact. This book piles speculation on top of speculation on top of speculation and then talks about it as if it's fact which I find somewhat irritating. For example - in talking about the seafaring celts, the Tuatha de Danaan, the author informs us that they were the tribe of Dan. I thought that was a cool connection I hadn't heard about before but when I looked into it I found that that interpretation of history is not universally accepted. Others think that 'Danaan' refers to the celtic goddess Danu and that the Tuatha de Danaan have nothing to do with the tribe of Dan. Now, the author may be correct. There are indications that the tribe of Dan took to the sea. They may be the Tuatha de Danaan or they may have intermingled with another seafaring culture and so be related to the Tuatha de Danaan or they may have met their match and been wiped out by the Tuatha de Danaan. We simply don't know. There isn't enough evidence - it's speculation. But the author speaks throughout the book as if Tuatha de Danaan (sorry I keep repeating that, I love the way it sounds ) ) and Danite were synonymous.

As I said, I enjoy speculation. This book presents some fascinating possibilities worthy of research. But the way the author treats speculation as fact makes it difficult to tell the difference between what is known and what is supposition, which makes it difficult to trust anything presented.
My brother gave this book to my mother. She read it in three days. I have always had an interest in ancient American history. Coming from Kentucky and Ohio, I have heard stories about mounds with bones and giants. This book gave a lot of insight. Yes, it is some one else's matter of opinion and we don't know for fact. But most science is about anything from the past all opinions. When Joseph Smith was asked about where Lehi and his family came into America. He said somewhere in the middle of North America. I don't know how Central America became Book of Mormon country. But I do believe Lehi and his family did come into North America. I have believed that for years. One Nephi said " Gentiles will come from many waters and bring forth a great nation. A nation greater than any other nation ever been before. ( Not word for word what was said. But he said a Great Nation and we are) We will lose this land if we don't live righteously
I am not a Mormon but do believe the Book of Mormon is a true record of the seed of Joseph that came to North America 600 years before Christ was born. This book is truly very good if you just look past her Mormonism. The research is well done. I found it very helpful.
Great author, Great book... very interesting and historical...
